Once again, ADSJ will be sponsoring a fantastic AKC seminar cruise for members and guests. We hope you will join us for this exciting trip with fellow dog judges, beautiful ship, interesting ports, and special amenities for ADSJ members.
The trip is a Norwegian Cruise Line Gem cruise that departs from Quebec City, on Sept 27, 2024 through the Canadian Maritimes, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Maine, and ends in Boston October 4. Devon KC and Montgomery KC are October 5 & 6, 2024, an easy trip from Boston.
And, during the cruise, we will have an AKC Seminar for CEU credit by Robette Johns, well known Collie breeder and judge, and Show Chair of Beverly Hills KC. Robette will cover both Smooth and Rough Collies and do a comparison with Shetland Sheepdogs.
Start your cruise in Québec City which sits on the Saint Lawrence River in Canada's French-speaking Québec province. Dating to 1608, it has a fortified colonial core, Vieux-Québec and Place Royale, with stone buildings and narrow streets. This area is the site of the towering Château Frontenac Hotel and imposing Citadelle of Québec. The Petit Champlain district’s cobblestone streets are lined with bistros and boutiques. Enjoy the fall colors as you cruise.
Sail the St Lawrence Seaway, the connection between the Atlantic and the Great Lakes, opened in 1959. It is the best time of the year to view Beluga Whales at the mouth of the Saguenay.
See the home of Anne of Green Gables in charming Charlottetown, Prnce Edward Island. It is is one of eastern Canada's maritime provinces, off New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The large island is marked by red-sand beaches, lighthouses, and fertile farmland, and is renowned for seafood like lobster and mussels. Charlottetown, the capital, is home to Victorian government buildings & the modern Confederation Centre of the Arts, with a theatre and art gallery.
Cape Breton Island is at the eastern end of the province of Nova Scotia. Its Cabot Trail is a roadway encircling the island, passing forests and rugged coastline. The drive skirts Cape Breton Highlands National Park, whose Skyline Trail footpath overlooks the Gulf of St. Lawrence, known for migratory whales. The town of Sydney honours local music with the Big Fiddle, a giant violin statue on the waterfront. It has been named #1 Island in North America by Conde Nast.
Halifax, an Atlantic Ocean port in eastern Canada, is the provincial capital of Nova Scotia. A major business centre, it’s also known for its maritime history. The city is dominated by the hilltop Citadel, a star-shaped fort completed in the 1850s. Waterfront warehouses known as the Historic Properties recall Halifax’s days as a trading hub for privateers, notably during the War of 1812.
In Portland, Maine you’ll find a hub with cobblestone streets, local shops, and scenic working waterfront views. But never far away are charming area towns bringing beaches, lighthouses, world-class eats + arts, outdoor adventures, and shopping destinations just a short distance from downtown. And, LOBSTER!
Bar Harbor is a town on Mount Desert Island along Maine’s Frenchman Bay. It serves as a gateway to the mountains and cliffs of neighboring gorgeous Acadia National Park. Towering over the park, Cadillac Mountain has trails and views of the town, the bay and the Cranberry Islands. Sand Beach is ringed by mountains. From the town pier, the Shore Path winds along the bay overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the Porcupine Islands.
End your cruise in Boston, the Cradle of Modern America, with its historic sites, vibrant restaurant scene, clam chowder, Fenway Park and great shopping.
And, Boston is an easy trip by rail, air or car to Philadephia for Devon and Montgomery KC. Combine your cruise with the premier Terrier event in the Country.
